Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Friction Android application (“Friction”, “the app”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), provided by Chirag Dua. By downloading, installing, or using Friction, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Your use of Friction is also subject to the Friction Privacy Policy.

1. What Friction Does

Friction is a digital wellbeing and productivity tool. It can add a deliberate pause before selected apps open and, when enabled, after you unlock your device.

Friction is not a medical, mental-health, emergency, parental-control, anti-theft, security, or communications service. It does not guarantee changes to your behaviour, wellbeing, attention, productivity, or screen time.

2. Device and Feature Limitations

Friction relies on Android system services and the permissions you choose to grant. Its behaviour can vary by Android version, phone manufacturer, battery-management settings, accessibility settings, installed apps, and other device restrictions.

We do not guarantee that the gate, reminders, background functionality, or Close phone feature will work at every moment or on every device. Phone makers may delay, restrict, or stop background activity. You remain responsible for checking that Friction is working as expected on your device.

Do not rely on Friction to manage emergency situations, calls, alarms, medical needs, safety-critical communications, or access to your device.

3. Your Choices and Responsibilities

You decide which apps and presets to configure, whether to enable lockscreen friction, and which permissions to grant. You are responsible for:

• reviewing the app’s settings and permissions;
• using Friction only on devices you are authorised to use;
• keeping access to your device and device unlock method available to you;
• disabling Friction, resetting setup, or uninstalling the app when you no longer want to use it; and
• complying with laws and rules that apply to your use of the app.

4. Permissions

Some features require Android permissions or special access. These may include:

• Accessibility access, which lets Friction notice when a selected app becomes active so it can show a friction gate;
• Display over other apps, which lets Friction show a friction gate over other apps
• Battery optimisation settings, which can help the app work more reliably in the background; and
• Notification permission, which allows Friction to send optional reminders where supported.

You can review or revoke these permissions in Android Settings. Removing a permission may prevent related Friction features from working.

5. Licence to Use Friction

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Friction on devices you own or are authorised to use.

Except where applicable law permits it, you must not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, lease, reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.

6. Feedback and Support

You may report bugs or request features through the app or by contacting us. Feedback is voluntary. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right to use, reproduce, and adapt your feedback to maintain and improve Friction, without compensation to you.

Please avoid sending sensitive personal information in support messages unless it is necessary to explain a problem.

7. Updates and Availability

We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of Friction at any time. Updates may be necessary to keep the app compatible with Android, improve reliability, address security issues, or change features.

We do not promise that a particular feature will remain available forever or that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device.

8. Disclaimers

Friction is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of any kind, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Chirag Dua and Friction will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, use, profits, goodwill, or device access arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, Friction.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where the law does not allow it to be excluded or limited.

10. Ending Your Use

You may stop using Friction at any time by disabling its permissions, resetting its setup, or uninstalling it.

We may suspend or end your right to use Friction if you breach these Terms or misuse the app. Sections that by their nature should continue after use ends, including intellectual-property, disclaimer, liability, and feedback provisions, will continue to apply.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version will show an updated effective date. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice of material changes.

By continuing to use Friction after updated Terms take effect, you agree to the updated Terms to the extent permitted by law.
